The famous words of the Wildwood Boardwalk - Watch the Tram Car Please! I love hearing those words because it's a reminder that we are at the shore!! There are so many fun things to do on the boardwalk but we thought we would highlight the Tram Car today as there are often questions around when it runs and how to get on. Did you know that the yellow and blue trams have been traversing the boards since June 11, 1949? They were originally built for the 1939 New York World’s Fair and brought to Five Mile Beach by S.B. Ramagosa.
The Tram Car schedule for 2021 is as follows:
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 4pm to 11pm
Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday from 11am to 11pm
Tram Cars operate during the season along the two miles of the Wildwoods Boardwalk from 16th Street in North Wildwood to Cresse Avenue at the Wildwood/Wildwood Crest end. A one-way ride is about thirty minutes and you can get off at any point on the ride by simply raising your hand. Need a ride back? No problem, just flag the Tram down and hop on. Keep in mind though during busier times (weekend nights) the Tram is very crowded and it can be difficult to get a ride back. The easiest place to pick up the tram is at the end of the boardwalk. We normally pick it up at Cresse and take it up to the piers. If you plan on doing the same, there is parking on the street all around Cresse. Download the Park Mobile app and it will help you locate an open spot and then you can pay for it directly from your phone. It's so easy!
The fare for the Tram is $4/ per person per trip. A trip is one way. So a round trip ride on the tram will cost you $8/per person. You can purchase tokens for rides either in the Tram store (at Cresse Ave end of the boardwalk directly under the Towers), you can pay cash when you get on, or you can download the "Wildwoods Tram Car" App for free. If you download the app, you will be able to pay directly through the app and it will be an entirely touchless transaction. They are also offering a free ride with a new purchase! If you wanted to plan ahead and you knew you would be needing several rides on the Tram, they sell package fares as well. A 25 ticket book (1 ticket per way) is $75.
If you have any questions, you can always reach out directly to them at (609) 523-8726.
